Naghmeh Ghasemzadeh, aka NAG, is a Toronto-based multi-disciplinary French and Canadian artist born in Iran.<\/p>\n

After leaving Iran, she studied Visual Arts and New Media at the Universit\u00e9 de Paris 8, France and later completed a MA from the Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Chicoutimi, Canada. Since then, she has developed her artistic practice and has participated in numerous group exhibitions from 2009 to 2017 in France. In 2018, following a 6-month residency, she had a solo exhibition in France, showcasing works of installation, video projection, sound, mixed media and photography. After moving to Canada, in 2019 she exhibited as part of the Artists In The Library program at Toronto Public Library North York, in 2022 she designed a community engaged mural project for the York Region Arts Council and in 2023 she showcased her artwork at the Remote Gallery in Toronto.<\/p>\n

Dans son travail, elle examine sa propre histoire d\u2019immigration, d\u2019assimilation culturelle et de d\u00e9racinement. Ces id\u00e9es recoupent les notions de droit des femmes, d\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 des sexes et de r\u00e9silience. Elle exprime ces sujets \u00e0 travers des mat\u00e9riaux et des r\u00e9cits fragment\u00e9s comme pour trouver un lien imaginaire entre les \u00e9v\u00e9nements, les \u00eatres, les objets et les destins, en assemblant des mat\u00e9riaux qui ne cohabitent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pas. Elle questionne la consommation fr\u00e9n\u00e9tique, l\u2019accumulation et la raison d'\u00eatre en donnant une nouvelle vie \u00e0 des choses d\u00e9pass\u00e9es et hors d\u2019usage. Les dessins et les mati\u00e8res organiques, les d\u00e9chets m\u00e9dicaux ou industriels sont assembl\u00e9s dans des techniques mixtes et des installations, cr\u00e9ant d\u2019\u00e9tranges organismes vivants miroir de sa qu\u00eate pour trouver un lieu et une communaut\u00e9 auxquels elle appartiendra enfin.<\/p>\n

Ses installations vid\u00e9o et sonores contribuent \u00e9galement \u00e0 ces r\u00e9cits, mettant en valeur la notion de r\u00e9silience physique et psychologique \u00e0 travers la juxtaposition, l\u2019animation, les boucles, la superposition et les effets visuels.<\/p>\n
